  • Which supplement should I take? #Supplement Explorer

Are you always on your phone looking at which supplements you should take? Do you look at reviews? How do you decide what to buy?

As someone who has been in the nutraceutical industry for over 10 years, I’ve worked with many suppliers and companies to understand why an ingredient is chosen, what research is behind it, and how to sell it to a consumer, so if you are looking for some answers to questions you may have, drop a comment, or even better check out the Supplement Explorer on the site. It is free to use, 3 questions, and a simple output. No info is stored.

I made the Supplement Explorer purely for my use and then thought, well, if it is useful for me, maybe it is useful for others. The tool is not affiliated with any company or brand, but was just a way for me to showcase what I find useful. If you use it, do give me feedback as to what you’d like to see it on too.

Stay well and remember, before taking any supplements, check with your doctor if it is a good fit for you or not!

  • Ten minutes!

    Ten minutes!

We all make choices daily. Some relate to work while others relate to relationships, food, or fitness but how long does it take you to make a choice or decision?

Convenience is a huge reason people eat the things they do.. Everyone is short on time so we lean to fast food or convenient food even if you know it’s only semi healthy. For example, I like many of you when crunched for time, grab a Dunkin donuts coffee and one of their healthier breakfast items even though it takes 10 mins to drive there and pick it up. In comparison, in that same ten minutes, I could have made a cup of coffee, some oatmeal, added fruit, and a tsp honey and had a nutritious meal!

Ten minutes and two decisions that could give you totally different results. Which version would you choose?

  • How do you fix poor health?

How do you fix poor health?

I read an interesting article on health and food and it got me thinking about all the information out there that consumers have access to but only those seeking it, actually find it and maybe use it. So if you’re not one of those folks and you have a health issue, what do you do? Go to the doctor? Try a supplement? Detox with juices?

One thing that often gets overlooked is good, clean, whole foods. Typically, if you use the idea of food as medicine, you’ll realize that eating healthy doesn’t have to be hard, expensive, and difficult to do. Think about this, athletes fuel themselves with nutritious items like fruits, veggies, nuts, and meats; they, tend to be fit and healthy so this recipe might work for you too.

Next time, you think you’re suffering from too much acid reflux or another ailment like that, consider changing your diet and see if that helps. Poor health possibly can be improved with just a cleaner diet.

Are you a fan of avocados? Breakfast? Ever thought about combining both? An interesting recipe that I tried includes avocados, eggs, and salsa. Sound good to you? Read on.

Slice the avocado in half and remove the pit. Bake both halves in an oven or you can grill these. When done baking or grilling, take out.

As the baking/grilling is going on, take your eggs and scramble them.

Put the scrambled eggs in the baked/grilled avocados and add salsa to top!

Now you have a fantastic healthy breakfast or snack which took under 30 mins to make!

  • Fast snack

    Fast snack

Sometimes when you are short on time and need a quick snack, you need to be able to grab what is in the kitchen, make it and go!

A quick go-to item for me is some fruit, peanut butter, and a wrap. Take the wrap, dap some peanut butter or your favorite nut butter or nutella, add your favorite fruit (for me, its mango) and roll it and you’re ready to go!

Not only did you not spend any money outside for a snack, you used all the items in your house to make it so you controlled what you are eating and putting your body! Snacks should be easy to make and something you want to eat so next time you are in a time crunch, try this recipe out.

  • Watermelon fries!

    Watermelon fries!

Summer is here and in full swing so when the temperature rises, one thing that I gravitate towards is watermelons! Not only is it a perfect time to eat these as they have a cooling effect but you can find some really sweet ones around this time of the year, not to mention all the water in them which helps me compensate for the lack of water that I drink at times.

One convenient way to eat watermelon is to slice it like fries. Yes, it’s a little more work but don’t worry the outcome is amazing. Take these watermelon fries and dip it in your favorite yogurt/peanut butter dip or add a tsp of honey and you’re all set for this amazing snack.

If you take watermelon fries to a summer BBQ or party, it will be a hit!

  • Toast Upgrade

    Toast Upgrade

Everyone has a favorite breakfast item, one of those is toast. You’ve probably heard of or even eaten those $10 plus avocado toasts but did you know you can upgrade your daily toast from just butter to much more.

Some simple toast additions include peanut butter, marmalade, or even eggs. For a sweeter kick, try nutella! Breakfast doesn’t have to start of boring. Nutella sure makes everything taste so great but remember it is loaded with sugar so go easy with it. If you aren’t a fan of jam, then marmalade might be the best option for you and of course, peanut butter gives you the benefit of good fats.

No matter your choice of bread, toasting it and upgrading it can only make your breakfast taste better!

  • Running out of ideas?

    Running out of ideas?

An interesting article that I read this week was about how companies are not giving up on selling you some of those unhealthy items like cookies and candy because they know people still crave those items, no matter the diet you follow. So how are they marketing to you now?

The recent ad campaigns will focus on telling you to chew slower and enjoy every morsel so that it is a treasured treat. Ok, I get it, yes that will make you savor the flavor and taste longer but I’m sure it is not doing anything to help you lose weight by eating a cookie slower. Growing up, we are told that you should chew thoroughly and not rush to eat your food but don’t you think this marketing idea is just asking too much? I mean, if you are going to cheat on your diet with a cookie or candy, you definitely will savor it no matter whether it is eaten in 2 mins or 10 mins, don’t you agree?

Do you think this marketing trend will stick? For companies, it will be good because you don’t have to change your packaging, just the advertising. For consumers, is this something you will buy into? I’m not so sure.

  • Apple Snacking

    Apple Snacking

One of my favorite snacks is usually an apple, Greek yogurt, and peanut butter. You can see why? It’s got protein, carbs, fats, and tastes good. Plus, the convenience factor is high too. But how do you take this snack and make it slightly better?

Instead of eating it all separately or even slicing the apple to dip in the peanut butter, you could blend the peanut butter with the yogurt to make a creamy dip, then slice the apple and you’ve got your own version of apple and dip. Plus, you used all the same items your were originally going to eat anyway.

Just a simple change made your snack new!

  • Banana snack?

    Banana snack?

Today there are lots of banana products to choose from–chips to pudding to more—but what if you’re favorite fruit is a banana and you just grab it as an easy snack to munch on while at your desk or while commuting, is that enough of a snack?

Yes, bananas are loaded with potassium but they also have carbs so to balance this snack, grab some nuts and cheese slices to get some fats and protein. Now, you’ve got a completely balanced snack that you can still snack on while commuting or eating at your desk!

  • Smart snacking

    Smart snacking

So something that I like to do when I’m craving a crunchy snack or a healthy one is grab an apple—my favorite is honey crisp. But did you know that though the apple is loaded with fiber and good carbs to keep you full, perhaps the apple isn’t all you should eat!

Pair your apple with some protein like cheese and fats like avocados or nuts and now your snack will be so much healthier and will keep you satiated longer!
