  • Which supplement should I take? #Supplement Explorer

Are you always on your phone looking at which supplements you should take? Do you look at reviews? How do you decide what to buy?

As someone who has been in the nutraceutical industry for over 10 years, I’ve worked with many suppliers and companies to understand why an ingredient is chosen, what research is behind it, and how to sell it to a consumer, so if you are looking for some answers to questions you may have, drop a comment, or even better check out the Supplement Explorer on the site. It is free to use, 3 questions, and a simple output. No info is stored.

I made the Supplement Explorer purely for my use and then thought, well, if it is useful for me, maybe it is useful for others. The tool is not affiliated with any company or brand, but was just a way for me to showcase what I find useful. If you use it, do give me feedback as to what you’d like to see it on too.

Stay well and remember, before taking any supplements, check with your doctor if it is a good fit for you or not!

  • Labels decoded

I’ve been enjoying using Meta’s AI app, Muse! Have you tried it? It’s probably the most useful assistant yet and actually is pretty secure based on how it’s set up.

That being said, I use it to analyze labels. Take a pic and ask it questions about the label and what nutrients are missing especially if you send a pic of the meal you’re eating too. I sent a pic of my home cooked meal and then of the protein powder label and then I get a good view of my macros in that meal. Unlike Claude or others, this assistant is very focused and doesn’t ramble on to give you an answer.

You may not be a fan of AI, but it’s here so try to find a way to use it that benefits you!

  • What are you eating?

With everything getting so expensive, “what are you eating” is slowly going to become the most popular question! Why is that so?

Well, we already talked about recalls but with diesel prices going up, up, it’s going to cause hardships for many.  I’m already looking at ways to get my nutrients in without breaking the bank.  From looking for protein bread to stocking up on soup, rice, basic fruits and vegetables not to mention milk and protein powders, just maybe I might have it figured out. Of course, I have to build in some flex for Taco Bell but otherwise it’s all eating at home!

What are you going to do?

  • Thought of the day

Thoughts are where dreams start, actions are where we live; the balance is life.

  • Recall fatigue

I don’t know about you but everyday a new recall shows up, the more puzzling it becomes that we are just getting immune to the news but should we be?

The latest recall around Clorox disinfectant is so disappointing. I mean the thing we use to kill bacteria now has bacteria lol!

Yes, every food / health item has some level of micros but what is happening to companies today? Why are standards not being met? What has changed and why?

Unfortunately, I think we should expect more recalls as we aren’t demanding more from these companies! Consumer spending can dictate change!

  • Thought of the day

While young, we itch to grow up; while an adult, we realize the itch was scratched but that also reminds us of the meaning of time in our lives!

  • Does buying organic food protect you from food recalls?

With all the food recalls in the US, it’s hard to figure out what you can actually eat. Do you feel lost in this news cycle as to what is good and what is not? I definitely do. I just won’t buy products with lettuce now, not worth the risk!

A lot of folks think that buying organic is the way to go but remember two things. First, organic just applies to what chemicals, fertilizers are used.  Second, sanitation and how things are made fall under the FDA and EPA. Different departments take care of the what and how!

So yes, organic food can be good for if you can afford it but you’re not immune from a food recall just because you eat it!

  • Ultra processed food

With the MAHA movement being strong in the US, some things about ultra processed foods are desperately needing a change. We eat ultra processed food mostly due to convenience not because it necessarily tastes great. Let’s face it home cooked meal is always going to be better!

The interesting part in the US is that the exact same item in Europe is so much healthier with less additives. Why is that? A lot of that has to do with the EU regulations being so much tougher but another aspect is the lack of multiple choices and large quantities in Europe. People demand healthier and they get it while in the US, not so much. I think we are just used to whatever is put out there, sad, right?

Next time, you eat something ultra processed, think about the healthier version of it as it probably does exist in another part of the world.

  • Food is..

We rely on so many things for our health from gadgets to supplements to exercise but we really should rely on food more.. That’s what is front and center for your health!

If you eat junk, you feel like it when you go to bed and wake up the next day.. That sluggish feeling is so real, right?

Why don’t we prioritize our food like we do other things on our calendar? We grab convenient items when we are in rush, not thinking about whether it is healthy or disguised as healthy? Our choices can have long term consequences, one meal at a time!

I challenge you to think about what you ate today and think about how you felt today and would you eat it again or not!

    Stay well!

  • Supplements cannot solve it all!

I’ve noticed more and more people think supplements are a quick fix to an issue and they give up easily on them if it doesn’t provided results quickly. Should they? I definitely disagree.

Most supplements should be taken for 3 months to see how it works for you. Why? It may take some time for your body to see any effects as absorption is different per ingredient. Also, a particular brand may not have worked for you but that doesn’t mean another identical supplement from another brand couldn’t work because maybe they bought a more premium ingredient. These were just two reasons as to why the supplement didn’t work.

Consider the impact of sleep, exercise, and diet too as they all play a role in how your health evolves, beyond supplements!

  • Travel hack

When I travel, I start the day with a protein shake and repeat after landing. Why?

One, it helps me stay full.

Two, I usually mix it with water or milk so it hydrates me.

Three, it allows me to get my protein in!

Simple and straightforward, no need to make it complicated!

    Stay well!
