  • Which supplement should I take? #Supplement Explorer

Are you always on your phone looking at which supplements you should take? Do you look at reviews? How do you decide what to buy?

As someone who has been in the nutraceutical industry for over 10 years, I’ve worked with many suppliers and companies to understand why an ingredient is chosen, what research is behind it, and how to sell it to a consumer, so if you are looking for some answers to questions you may have, drop a comment, or even better check out the Supplement Explorer on the site. It is free to use, 3 questions, and a simple output. No info is stored.

I made the Supplement Explorer purely for my use and then thought, well, if it is useful for me, maybe it is useful for others. The tool is not affiliated with any company or brand, but was just a way for me to showcase what I find useful. If you use it, do give me feedback as to what you’d like to see it on too.

Stay well and remember, before taking any supplements, check with your doctor if it is a good fit for you or not!

    New year, new you!

Happy New year! As the year begins and we make continued resolutions, one quote that sticks out for me is

“You are your only limit”– author unknown

This applies to all aspects of life from changing your eating habit to exercising to getting your dream job so remember to go after your goal whole- heartedly!

    12/28: Quote of the day!

If you have been reading my blog this year, you know that the goal is to find way to approach a healthier way of living via diet, fitness, etc. but we must remember what is wellness to fully understand what it is that we are trying to achieve. This quote summarizes it well:

“Wellness is not a ‘medical fix’ but a way of living – a lifestyle sensitive and responsive to all the dimensions of body, mind, and spirit, an approach to life we each design to achieve our highest potential for well-being now and forever”— Greg Anderson

It is never too late to start your health and wellness journey!

    12/27: Quote of the day!

I found this interesting quote on Shape.com about working out that I think we all can relate to.

“Making excuses burns zero calories per hour”-Author unknown

I definitely agree with this quote because let’s face it penciling a day/time to workout is sometimes tough so it is easy to fall off and return to bad habits but if you have a goal in mind, that should help you sustain your drive so that there are indeed no excuses!

  • Day after Christmas: Quote of the day!

Day after Christmas: Quote of the day!

With holiday feasting over for some yesterday and for others continuing until New Year’s, I thought this quote was pretty appropriate. I found it on Reader’s Digest and it definitely makes you rationalize eating most people’s favorite fast food—pizza!

“When the waitress asked if I wanted my pizza cut into four or eight slices, I said, ‘Four. I don’t think I can eat eight.’”
    — Yogi Berra

No matter which way you slice it, can you really justify allowing pizza to be a healthy option?

  • Christmas Day: Quote of the day!

Christmas Day: Quote of the day!

Greg Plitt was a famous bodybuilder that died too soon via a train accident but he definitely inspired many who followed him.

Your body is the house you force to live in for the rest of your life. You don’t get to sell, you don’t get foreclosure, you can’t do a quick sale. All you can do is to modify and improve it. Or you can tarnish it. One house to live in, man. What kind of house do you want to live in? – Greg Plitt

Everything we do impacts how healthy we are, from diet to exercise. Wise words indeed! Live your best life!

Christmas Eve: Quote of the day!

With it being Christmas week and knowing that most of us have crazy last minute shopping to do this week, I wanted to keep the blog posts simple so I’ll be posting health and food related quotes that I think are either humorous or motivational! Wishing you all Happy Holidays!

Hippocrates: “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”

Such true words, changing how you eat can impact your health so much! Just small changes like cutting out sugar or eating more fruits and veggies could make all the difference in how you feel. Wise words indeed!

  • Cereal Innovation

    Cereal Innovation

No matter where you shop—Amazon, Whole Foods, Walmart, or you local grocery store—there is usually at least one aisle full of cereals to choose from. Assuming that most adults are choosing lower sugar content items, the selection drops down to a lot less but what about if you are looking for Cheerios or Lucky Charms or Frosted Flakes? Can you still enjoy those products?

Manufacturers are seeing that the above three cereals are enduring in their appeal so are trying best to release versions of those items from different flavored marshmallows to different flavored choices (honey nut, apple cinnamon, etc.) to even claiming reduced sugar. Yes, that might attract your attention but what else can they do?

If you have been to Target lately, you might have seen Lucky Charms Frosted Flakes or now you may see Honey Nut Frosted Flakes—talk about innovation! Are these going to have the legs that the other cereals do? Maybe but for novelty purposes, it makes sense to launch it. Though in the aisle of cereals, how would anyone notice or even know how to find these new launches? I certainly wouldn’t go out of my way to look for them if I hadn’t read about it online somewhere. That’s the problem, no matter how good the innovation is, someone has to educate the consumer that it is there and available and until that is resolved, some innovations will only lead to minimal success!

  • Plant-based eating is trendy?

    Plant-based eating is trendy?

With so many diets to choose from today including Keto, Paleo, Vegan, Atkins, and more, another one that is gaining traction is plant-based. Do you consider this trend of eating plant-based foods a fad or one that is here to stay?

If you are on Twitter (follow @iatmnow for interesting articles) and notice that on Mondays there is usually a #MeatlessMonday trend, that must mean that people are wanting to incorporate no meat in their diet at least once a week, right? Perhaps. We may not know all the reasons people are turning towards plant-based foods but some of those reasons include trying to be more health conscious or environmentally friendly.

I know that if I am doing any diet changes, I tend to alter one thing at a time, either cut out dairy or gluten or whatever it is that I think that will help me achieve my goals so I’m guessing people are looking at plant-based similarly in the sense that if I don’t have to eat meat and can satisfy that craving with a product like Beyond Meat or Impossible burger then I don’t really have much to lose. The fault in this thought process is that if you are eating healthier and exercising, would that actual burger really cause that many issues for you? Another thing to pay attention to is, these plant-based products have a lot of ingredients to make it taste like the real thing so if you aren’t a fan of chemical sounding names on your label, should you be eating it? Not all plant-based trends have to have a downside, for example, there are companies that are doing it right. Think of cauliflower pizza crust. It actually tastes good and companies who can make it without adding too many chemical sounding ingredients are likely going to win more customers.

The plant-based diet can be for anyone so that’s the nice thing about this diet because no matter what your goal, your diet doesn’t have to be radically shifted to accommodate this lifestyle.
