Plant-based eating is trendy?

With so many diets to choose from today including Keto, Paleo, Vegan, Atkins, and more, another one that is gaining traction is plant-based. Do you consider this trend of eating plant-based foods a fad or one that is here to stay?

If you are on Twitter (follow @iatmnow for interesting articles) and notice that on Mondays there is usually a #MeatlessMonday trend, that must mean that people are wanting to incorporate no meat in their diet at least once a week, right? Perhaps. We may not know all the reasons people are turning towards plant-based foods but some of those reasons include trying to be more health conscious or environmentally friendly.

I know that if I am doing any diet changes, I tend to alter one thing at a time, either cut out dairy or gluten or whatever it is that I think that will help me achieve my goals so I’m guessing people are looking at plant-based similarly in the sense that if I don’t have to eat meat and can satisfy that craving with a product like Beyond Meat or Impossible burger then I don’t really have much to lose. The fault in this thought process is that if you are eating healthier and exercising, would that actual burger really cause that many issues for you? Another thing to pay attention to is, these plant-based products have a lot of ingredients to make it taste like the real thing so if you aren’t a fan of chemical sounding names on your label, should you be eating it? Not all plant-based trends have to have a downside, for example, there are companies that are doing it right. Think of cauliflower pizza crust. It actually tastes good and companies who can make it without adding too many chemical sounding ingredients are likely going to win more customers.

The plant-based diet can be for anyone so that’s the nice thing about this diet because no matter what your goal, your diet doesn’t have to be radically shifted to accommodate this lifestyle.
