Which supplement should I take? #Supplement Explorer
Are you always on your phone looking at which supplements you should take? Do you look at reviews? How do you decide what to buy?
As someone who has been in the nutraceutical industry for over 10 years, I’ve worked with many suppliers and companies to understand why an ingredient is chosen, what research is behind it, and how to sell it to a consumer, so if you are looking for some answers to questions you may have, drop a comment, or even better check out the Supplement Explorer on the site. It is free to use, 3 questions, and a simple output. No info is stored.I made the Supplement Explorer purely for my use and then thought, well, if it is useful for me, maybe it is useful for others. The tool is not affiliated with any company or brand, but was just a way for me to showcase what I find useful. If you use it, do give me feedback as to what you’d like to see it on too.
Stay well and remember, before taking any supplements, check with your doctor if it is a good fit for you or not!

Have we reached peak saturation?

Going to the cereal aisle, I’m always amazed at the variety of choices, aren’t you? However, I was actually shocked by the amount of Cheerios in the aisle (see the pic).
We are spoiled for choice today and this is hampering our decision- making and preventing us from going quickly in and out of a store, which is why stores like Aldi’s are gaining popularity.
So my question for you is, do we need so many choices?

Botanical treat

I found a new treat while shopping at Wegmans. With CBD gaining so much popularity, I wasn’t surprised to see this ingredient with chocolate and other adaptogens. The interesting bit is that you only need to take a small piece of it per the packaging.
My thoughts on the product, it tastes good as a treat but it will take some time to figure out how it really is helping me.

Product Alert: Hint water

If you’re like me, you struggle to drink water. Even though, we know all the benefits of water, why is it that we don’t drink enough? Don’t worry, companies realize this and have a solution for yo–collagen water, vitamin infused water, sparking water, and more. Confused? I would be too. Imagine my surprise when I picked up Hint water and all it was, was water w a yes, a hint, of flavor. No calories and something that I want to drink. So if you struggle to drink water, this might be an option to consider.

Product Alert: Craisins

Recently, I visited a cranberry big (farm) and discovered one of my new faves to snack on–craisins. Craisins are basically like raisins but come from cranberries which are full of antioxidants. Easy to snack on like raisins and since they are coated by a cane sugar syrup, be careful to not overindulge because your sweet tooth will be satisfied but you’ll also be consuming sugar too!

Product Alert: Botanical Oils

Recently, I researched quite extensively regarding CBD oil and full spectrum hemp seeds oil/extract and though the science and research says we have an endocannabinoid system that is helped by these oils, much is still left to be clarified.
Questions that remain to be answered include what dosage is actually good for pain or anxiety or sleep or even skin health? Why does one product target sleep and another pain? How do I know how much CBD is actually in the oil? Are those certificate if analysis confirmed by a third party audit? And most importantly, where does the FDA stand on these ingredients as there is no legal pathway other than the farm bill?
If you do decide to take CBD oil or hemp seeds extract, do consider all these questions and consult with your doctor before you start experimenting on yourself. Remember, as of right now there isn’t any long term clinical studies showing the effects of the oil just anectedotal information.

Indulgence Season Is Here

With Halloween just passing and Thanksgiving right around the corner, loads of sugar, sweets, and indulgences are around the corner so don’t fall in the trap of eating everything because those few weeks of cheating will definitely make it harder to return to your healthy ways especially if you are getting older.
What can you do so you don’t miss out on the wonderful meals? Eat smaller portions, continue to go to the gym, and eat 2 out of 3 meals as clean as you can so that the cheat meal doesn’t turn into a cheat week or cheat month.
Family time is so important during the holidays but so give them the attention they seek and your waistline the attention it deserves too!

Reminder: Don’t forget your Vitamin C

As travel season begins this month, one go to vitamin for me is Vitamin C. I take Ester-C because this form of Vitamin C stays in your body 24hr versus the generic ones that are eliminated when you urinate. So not only will Vitamin C help you build up your immunity, it will help you fight some of those nasty germs when you travel by plane or train.
Dosage wise, I take 1000 mg Ester-C but that pill is pretty big so a 250mg of 500 mg dosage might be better for you or even the gummy forms if you like gummies. Lots of choices so look for the one that fits your lifestyle.
If you don’t like to take Vitamin C supplements, you can always have more oranges or orange juice but remember to buy the smaller containers of orange juice as the Vitamin C is depleted quickly depending on how many times you open on the container because oxygen has entered the container (which oxidizes the vitamin C).
No matter the brand you take and dosage you take, Vitamin C is definitely seen as a vitamin that helps your immunity so don’t miss out on it!
