Which supplement should I take? #Supplement Explorer
Are you always on your phone looking at which supplements you should take? Do you look at reviews? How do you decide what to buy?
As someone who has been in the nutraceutical industry for over 10 years, I’ve worked with many suppliers and companies to understand why an ingredient is chosen, what research is behind it, and how to sell it to a consumer, so if you are looking for some answers to questions you may have, drop a comment, or even better check out the Supplement Explorer on the site. It is free to use, 3 questions, and a simple output. No info is stored.I made the Supplement Explorer purely for my use and then thought, well, if it is useful for me, maybe it is useful for others. The tool is not affiliated with any company or brand, but was just a way for me to showcase what I find useful. If you use it, do give me feedback as to what you’d like to see it on too.
Stay well and remember, before taking any supplements, check with your doctor if it is a good fit for you or not!

New product alert: Apple Cider Vinegar Gummies

On my usual Target run, I decided to pick up some new Apple Cider Vinegar Gummies. You’re probably wondering, do they taste good? How expensive are they? What effects should you expect?
Well, for 60 gummies in a bottle, it was about $20. The bottle recommends taking one a day but I’ll take two to see more of an effect faster, or so I hope. The gummies are vegan and gluten free. They taste pretty good but not so vinegar-ish like straight up ACV does. Also, the gummies do have B vitamins and beetroot and pomegranate in them. ACV could have possible benefits for energy, weight management, skin health and more but you should do your research or ask a doctor if you’re unsure if it’s the right product for you. I’ll update on the effects in a couple of weeks!

Spring allergies

So I read somewhere that we are only 14 Mondays away from summer—wow and yeah! I love summer weather with so much sun and outdoor activities but before we get to summer, we got to pass through spring and allergy season.
Over the years, I’ve figured out what best for and when. Yeah, it takes time to figure out the best combo for yourself. For me, the over-the-counter stuff works great. I always take my Ester-C all year and use my neti pot as needed. Sometimes if I still need a medicine than I reach for Flonase. That’s what worked/works for me but what works for you might be different so ask your doctor before trying anything.
I don’t dread allergy season now because I know what routine works for me. Red eyes, runny nose, and carrying a tissue around are definitely minimized!

Job stress

Do you have job stress? It’s either an easy question to answer or a tough one. What does your answer depend on—what you do, how much you get paid, who your co-workers are, how your boss treats you, or something else? Depending on how you answer the question, really can indicate your level of job stress but is there something you can do about it?
Job satisfaction is a huge driver for success, no matter where you work or what you do. If you have job satisfaction then most of the unnecessary stress will go away. Personally, I’ve been most successful when I enjoy what I do and get recognized for my efforts. Does that mean I don’t have stress? Of course not but it does mean that I am able to manage it better via exercise, travel, hiking or another fun activity. If you find that happiness nugget in your job, job stress will be reduced.

Rice Cake Recipe
So I didn’t think that I would like rice cakes as they always have that aura of being tasteless or super healthy but I decided to buy some this week from Target and make something with it.
I decided to start simple, rice cake, peanut butter, and fruit. Did this cover my need for protein, carbs, and fat? Yup! Did it fill the need for a quick breakfast? Yup! Did it taste good? Yup! I think it helped that I bought the chocolate flavor rice cake. Would I continue to buy this again? Most likely because it was fast and easy to make and filling too. I wasn’t hungry an hour later. Sometimes, just getting over that healthy halo is the most difficult part and in this case, I’m glad that I tried it out.

Dog sniff test

If you’ve seen A Dog’s Purpose movies (both parts), you’ll likely remember a scene in the movie where the dog crosses his legs in front of a cancer patient indicating that the person has cancer. How was the dog able to do this? Smell is a huge indicator for dogs and many dogs are used to indicate the presence of a disease. So is there a way to capture this connection between a dog’s sniff and science?
Researchers at MIT have started to find a way to capture this olfactory method via a created technology. It is still under development but it could have immense promise as you wouldn’t have to rely on dogs to do the hard work. Technological advances are likely and duplicating exactly the connection between a dog’s nose and his brain will likely be impossible but anything that can help science find, cure, and prevent diseases is going to be beneficial, if done ethically. Recipe Friday

This week I made another healthy meal that took under 20 mins. Shrimp with mac and cheese. It was tasty and chock full of protein.
I bought some Banza pasta (but of course as I like the flavor and protein content in it). Made it and drained the water. Added some Silk ultra high protein milk and powdered cheese and combined. The mac and cheese part was made, now on to make the shrimp. I used frozen shrimp that was first thawed. Added it to olive oil in a skillet and cooked it. Seasoned it with spices that I like and then took the finished, seasoned shrimp and added it to the mac and cheese that was made. Simple and straight forward. Quick and easy to make plus super tasty too!

Night cravings

Have you ever wondered why your body reacts in a certain way when you give up something? For me, giving up sugar has surely been challenging. I didn’t eat that much sugar before but just giving up desserts sure has been challenging. So what did I do to counter these night cravings?
Instead of just eating a slice of cake or a doughnut, I switched to grapes and other fruits like pineapples. These satisfy my sweet tooth and are also healthy. I also added some nuts to my snacking routine. If that still wasn’t enough, sweet and salty popcorn did the trick. Simple switches but doable. Don’t get me wrong, I still miss the doughnut but by making these switches, I know I’m doing something good for myself so that keeps me going. Sometimes you just got to find a way to keep yourself on track. The struggle is real!

New Product Alert: Silk Ultra High Protein Milk

As you know, I’m always looking for a way to up my protein and since I like drinking these alternative kinds of milk, imagine my surprise when I found this Silk Ultra High Protein Milk. What makes it special? Should you buy it? What’s the price?
I bought mine at Target for under $4. It is a tasty soy-based milk product with 20g protein, calcium, and other nutrients like Vitamin A, B, and D. It is also vegan and non-GMO project verified. I’ve also tried this in oatmeal and other meals that require milk and this works well too as a substitute. So if you are looking for a milk alternative, check out this one from Silk.
Stay well and enjoy this milk alternative!

Pasta recipe

Another one of my favorite recipes that I made this week is tomato feta pasta. So yummy and so easy to make. Check out the recipe below:
In a baking dish, drizzle olive oil. Place cherry tomatoes in it and season with salt and pepper. Then mix with olive oil. Place a feta cheese block in the middle of the dish and drizzle with more olive oil and season with your spice choice. Bake at 400F for 30 mins.
Meanwhile, make your pasta and drain. I used Banza because it is made from chickpeas, is tasty, and has 20g plus protein in it.
Once the 30 mins is up, mash and mix the feta with the cooked tomatoes and add to the drained pasta and it is now ready to eat!
Enjoy!
