Which supplement should I take? #Supplement Explorer
Are you always on your phone looking at which supplements you should take? Do you look at reviews? How do you decide what to buy?
As someone who has been in the nutraceutical industry for over 10 years, I’ve worked with many suppliers and companies to understand why an ingredient is chosen, what research is behind it, and how to sell it to a consumer, so if you are looking for some answers to questions you may have, drop a comment, or even better check out the Supplement Explorer on the site. It is free to use, 3 questions, and a simple output. No info is stored.I made the Supplement Explorer purely for my use and then thought, well, if it is useful for me, maybe it is useful for others. The tool is not affiliated with any company or brand, but was just a way for me to showcase what I find useful. If you use it, do give me feedback as to what you’d like to see it on too.
Stay well and remember, before taking any supplements, check with your doctor if it is a good fit for you or not!

Product Alert: Coke with Coffee

Are you a fan of Coke? coffee? A few years back, I was traveling and went to a coffee stand at an outlet mall and they were serving a drink of coke and coffee. I was like what an odd combo but it seemed to work. Local mom and pop stands/shops often try new things and that was one drink that I thought was pretty unique. Never did I think that I would ever find that drink at a store someday but here we are.
Would you like a drink that combines both? Well, it now exists and can be found at your local CVS for about $2.30 per can. Depending on your choice, you can get a zero-sugar version or a can that is 70 calories with 18g carbs. The flavor choices range from dark blend to caramel to vanilla. So should you buy it? Well, that’s up to you but for me, it was an easy decision to try it but again I don’t see myself buying this all the time as if I’m trying to eat and drink healthier then I don’t see how Coke fits into that. But since I did try, the question you probably have is does it taste good, and did it give me the energy boost? I’d say yes to both but more than likely next time, I’ll just grab another cup of coffee!

Increase in Sun, Increase in Outdoor Activity
Staying fit doesn’t only mean going to the gym and though I’ve mentioned taking your dog for a walk in previous posts as a way to stay active, outdoor activities like gardening and biking are just as effective. With the sun shining every day or more now, I’m seeing more people are ready to embrace being outside especially if you have brutal winters.
Activities that you can do outside aside from walking include setting up a garden or just maintaining your yard. I can finally move from the hydroponic garden indoors to something outdoors. If you are cutting your grass or planting trees, not only are you making your home look nice but you are also burning calories doing those activities. One of my favorite things to do is to landscape and put down the landscape paper and mulch and trees and all that which goes with it and when it is hot, I burn even more calories. Another thing that I like to do is to pull out my bike and go riding. Even though there are sidewalks where I live, I can bike around the neighborhood so I do burn some calories that way too.
Finding an activity that you enjoy doing in sunny weather will only make you happier and healthier!

Carbs after exercising?

I read an interesting article about exercising and whether you should take carbs or protein after your workout. My guess is like me, you too are taking protein afterward as that is what has been ingrained in us forever, right? So should you take carbs or protein after your workout?
We all know that you need to eat protein, carbs, and fats to maintain good health and alter those ratios based on your goals. We also know that carbs are needed for energy to help you get through a workout; hence, why many runners choose to eat a banana to keep going but what if you are a casual fitness athlete, is there a preference for what you should be eating and when? Check out the article below and let me know if you are going to alter your post-workout routine consumption or not.

Product Alert: Vitafive Elderberry

One thing that is important in these pandemic times is maintaining your immunity. We all know that a strong immune system is good to help with our daily battles with allergies, colds, and whatever else there is and that there are many supplements to choose from so to help confuse you further, here’s another one that I found recently, again intrigued by the packaging. While I was at Target, I saw elderberry gummies for immunity for about $13 for 60 gummies. So should you try them?
Well, immunity is usually associated with Vitamin C and so these gummies do that too. Also, they include zinc and elderberry too. So you are kinda getting the whole gamut of immune defense ingredients, right? So why is elderberry good for you? Well, like other berries it is full of antioxidants and vitamins and with a combo of zinc and vitamin c, you can quickly see how it might help you. If you are not sure if these gummies are for you, do ask your doctor before trying!

Product Alert: Sleep Supplement

Do you have a hard time sleeping? Have you tried meditation? Changing your diet or exercising? Perhaps, all of those help to an extent but you are still looking for a supplement to help too, right? Well, check out Sleep 3 by Nature’s Bounty.
I saw this supplement at Target and was immediately intrigued by its packaging. Not only does it have melatonin but also other herbal blend ingredients. It also comes in a trilayered tablet form so easy to swallow and apparently, each layer dissolves differently during the night to help you sleep. If you try this tablet, do let me know if it worked for you. For 30 tablets, it cost about $9 at Target so a bit pricey but it might be worth it if you are looking for a sleep supplement. Before you take the supplement, do check with your doctor if it is right for you.

Quick sweet tooth hack

If you don’t know but I have a terrible sweet tooth. I never feel complete until I’ve had dessert after a meal. Is that you too? Does your sweet tooth overwhelm you at times? Is there something that can be done? Yes, there is and that too without consuming tons of calories. How?
Well, if you go down the baking aisle, you’ll find these semi-sweet chocolate chips that can be used for making cookies, muffins, etc. So what do you with these? Well, these are my sweet tooth craving stoppers. Just a few of these, give me the chocolate craving that I seek and I don’t feel terrible about eating them either. Much better than eating a brownie or cake slice, right? Plus, if you buy the mini chocolate chips, you can reduce how many eat further and reduce your calorie intake as well. Is this a good hack? I’d say yes b/c a bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips should last a long time provided you don’t eat them in one sitting! Also, it helps if you like semi-sweet chocolate or chocolate in general. If you are not a chocolate lover, then this hack is not for you!

Are you a wrap person?

One of my favorite go to’s for lunch or dinner is a wrap. What I like about it is that you can make it whatever way you like. With spring around the corner, grilling season is almost here so that makes wraps an even better option. What do you like to put in your wrap? My quick wrap recipe is below.
Spicy chicken wrap recipe:
On a skillet, melt butter. Add seasoned chicken (I use various Indian spices to spice it up) and then cook until all pink is gone or chicken is cooked. Take off the skillet and dice the chicken and set aside. Meanwhile, cook the low carb tortillas on the skillet and once done put on a plate and add the diced, seasoned chicken. Add a hint of sriracha sauce and wrap. Optionally, you can also add tomatoes, lettuce, onions, and other veggies you like. Enjoy this delicious, high protein, low carb and healthy wrap!
