Tech Tip: Instagram is more than just photos

With Facebook viewership declining, more and more people are turning to Instagram. If you aren’t on Instagram, I highly recommend you download the free app and use it for many reasons, even if you don’t want to post anything on it.

I find Instagram easier to access content that I like because if I’m interested in a product, I can usually find info about that product on the Instagram page along with possible recipes that the brand puts out. Yes, that means you have to follow the brand but at least this way you will know what’s new via their account and Insta-stories (that circle bubble at the top of the screen) or Insta-TV (where longer videos can be posted, click the TV looking icon at the top).

I also like Instagram because you the people connecting with the brand are actual users which have to opt-in, unlike Amazon reviews which can be paid for endorsed because they gave them a free sample to try. Plus, a good brand is always putting new info up that is easy to access, unlike Facebook that has so much info that you can get lost in. Plus, if you follow a hashtag (for example, #keto), you will find similar posts regarding that search item which also could show you more relevant info.

The cons with Instagram is that you have people being an expert on something without having to justify their expertise in that area. So everyone has the next best weight loss item or the best way to fix your posture or best new health plan for you, so you must figure out who you trust and who you don’t. Though I must say, that the energy people display to promote a product is great but too bad that I need to see more science to justify your product is the one for me.

Yes, Instagram may be cool with the Millennial but it is also a great search engine too like Google/Pinterest/Amazon to find products, learn about products, or connect with others with similar health and wellness interests.
