Hot weather is not an excuse to not stay healthy!

Walking around this week outside to get to my convention center, it’s pretty easy to see why people gravitate towards comfort foods and drinks when the weather is hot!

After all that walking even I wanted a cold refreshing beverage or ice cream but having self control is important to succeed on your diet or fitness plan.

What should you do if you are in a similar situation with high heat and humidity, my recommendation is to find something that’s easy to prepare or have without adding too many calories to your diet. Iced coffee is so easy to make at home and you won’t get all that sugar that you would otherwise at Dunkin donuts or Starbucks because my bet is that you don’t have all those syrups at home that they have at the store. Did you know one pump of caramel syrup at Dunkin donuts has 50 calories and if you get a medium black coffee with caramel syrup, you are getting 150 calories in that drink! Whoa!  Remember, sugar leads to insulin spikes and in order to succeed at your diet or fitness plan, you should avoid those highs and lows.

Don’t let the heat, drag you down.  Hit the gym (which hopefully has AC) and plan ahead before you grab that unhealthy item to munch or sip on.
