Are food trends altered?

With the pandemic changing so much in the world in 2020, food trends that were predicted to be hot at the beginning of the year are now not as high in visibility as priorities have changed for food companies. Does that mean those trends you read about are no longer relevant? Not likely but rather there is just a delay in those trends taking off. Remember, food companies are trying to stay relevant during this time as well.

Trends you’ll see influencing your purchase decision include a packaging change. We have already seen the change in packaging coming from Uncle Ben’s to Aunt Jemima to even Trader Joe’s ethnic lines so is this where the trend is going? Yes, the packaging is the easiest to change especially for legacy brands who haven’t changed with the times. Another area you’ll see a trend is in the plant-based movement. With growing challenges with meat products and how we buy them, this would be a favorable time to watch companies jump on the bandwagon and see their innovation in this area. As times change, companies must adapt so let’s see what the second half of 2020 brings in the food space!
