Over-sized and ready to eat?

Have you gone to the grocery store and looked at shiny fruit and even over-sized fruit? Does that influence your decision to buy the fruit? If you look at the pic with this post, you’ll see that the Honeycrisp apple is as large or larger than the cup–by the way, notice the Friends mug, another one of my favorites. Is that normal? Should the apple be that big? What does it tell you about the fruit?

If you grow your own fruits in a garden without chemicals typically very few items grow to absurd sizes but some do like watermelons and pumpkins but would you grow such an apple? The only advice I would give to you is to buy it if the shininess and size appeal to you but sometimes smaller sizes are sweeter and tastier. Remember, there is a huge microgreens market today those are tiny plants versus the larger ones that yield more but may not have as many nutrients (vitamins and minerals). Don’t be fooled by the size of the fruit as larger doesn’t indicate more nutrients necessarily!

Stay well!
