Today I learned the importance of breathing properly and how it can significantly affect your health. I didn’t realize that perhaps breathing is what is causing my knee pain or back pain when I squat. How did I learn this today?
By chance, I went to a doctor’s office because after two years, this intermittent back pain was just not going away. Not sure why, I decided to meet with a new back pain doctor and what I learned was fascinating. I learned really quickly that when I inhale, I don’t inhale to my stomach which results in not stabilizing my core resulting in misalignment and stress on my knees and back and even feet. The nerves are connected right? So my homework is to exercise without including movements like the squat which could aggravate my back and knees by modifiy by squatting to a box or doing single leg squats. A simple visit to a doctor is perhaps all that I needed to learn about why my back want’t healing. Of course, my homework also includes learning to breathe all the way to my stomach. Hopefully, in a few weeks, I’ll be better.
Stay well and breathe all the way to your stomach!
