Lately, I’ve been reading a lot of articles about how supply and demand has been affected to theb point that there is even more food waste now! Unbelievable, right? Did you know farmers are so affected by the supply chain due to the coronavirus that the food they are growing isn’t making it to the shelves and is therefore getting thrown out! Clearly, when many are so hungry and jobless, how is this happening & how can we get food to those people that need it most? What if you’re on for stamps or a government assisted program like WIC and SNAP that limit what you can buy? Will qualified foods run out?
So many questions and yet so little useful info out there. What we do know is how economics works and how supply and demand works so will there be food shortages? Yes. Will it impact you? Yes. How? Probably by the amount you pay for an item. Currently, there are supply issues regarding pork, chicken, and seafood. Does that mean these items will run out? Not exactly. It just means those suppliers will have to contract for items which will be reflected in your purchase price. Will this be the new norm-higher prices? Let’s hope not but things are changing and your wallet will show the difference!
