Customer Confusion

Recently, I caught a headline somewhere saying that customers are still confused when they buy food. That got me to thinking, what are they confused about? Is it that they are not sure their food is healthy? Not sure how to read the label? Not sure what the food tastes like? Not sure if the price is right? So many questions, so little answers.

Based on what I’ve been writing for some time now, I’m sure you have figured out that buying food isn’t as simple as it used to be. Everyday there is another new label that is slapped on to a box and very little explanation is given to the consumer as to what it means. Even if you Google it while at the grocery store, does that split second of info you read, really help you decide if that item is healthy or for you? So what can you do?

My suggestion is that you need to decide how important that food is for you. Does it satisfy a craving or a necessity? Does it cost a lot or not? Is it going to last you a few days or is it a one time meal? Does it have the nutrients you are looking for? Does it fit your diet or habits? So many decisions with so little answers. One of the reasons that I like shopping at Aldi’s is the number of products is so limited that you don’t have to waste your time figuring out what is what, especially if you aren’t brand conscious. Customer confusion is going to continue as long as food manufacturers continue to make food better—be it by using a specific ingredient or specific processing.
