There is no cure so far for the coronavirus that is worldwide so as we turn to protect ourselves with personal protective equipment like gloves and masks, one might also want to consider taking vitamins like Vitamin D. Yes, vitamins are supplements to your diet but what’s interesting is that Vitamin D and the correlation between mortality via coronavirus is currently being studied and the results are interesting.
The article that I read (posted on my twitter @iatmnow) shows that countries above a certain latitude tended to have a higher deficiency in Vitamin D and so the body’s inflammatory response was comprised. What should you make of this early finding? To me, I’m already taking Vitamin D3 supplements as I know I don’t spend enough time outside so supplementing it makes sense but it seems that there is some evidence coming that perhaps Vitamin D could help. Science is tricky. Being in the field, I do question data and results because does it apply to everyone or just the select sample size that was reviewed? How many other studies confirm this finding and so on?
Unless you are eating a lot of salmon, cheese, egg yolks, etc then you might be Vitamin D deficient but the only way to tell this is by getting tested for it. No matter whether you choose to take Vitamin D or not, I think the study was very interesting, and hopefully, more studies come out supporting the same finding.
Please do speak with your doctor before you take any supplements as each of our bodies has a different chemical makeup!
Stay well!
