Old is gold

With movies and TV being a great medium for product placement, is the time right to bring back old products regardless of whether they were successful or not?

Apparently, the answer is yes as New Coke is coming back from the dead. Why? It fits with the theme of Stranger Things on Netflix. The tie-in definitely makes sense considering the setting but has the audience for the product changed? Perhaps, a whole new generation will get to try it out, like me, and then we can decide if this truly limited run will stay that. A summer or two back, Crystal Pepsi came back and though it was a limited run, it still is available and is still clear and loaded with sugar. 

I’m not sure who the market is for these relaunched products but after the initial euphoria of it coming back, do they really sustain sales? I guess after the new season of Stranger Things releases on July 4, we will see the success or failure of New Coke!
