Your Dog Can Improve Your Health!

We all make resolutions on New Year’s Day and somehow most of those resolutions only last one month or fail by the third month. Many of us make a resolutions to stay fit or exercise more during the year but often we don’t know where to start so we go to the gym and run on a treadmill and hope the weight comes off. As we know now, there is more to it.  You have to stay active and eat right as without both success is limited or slower.

You might be surprised but even your daily activity of walking with your dog can yield some important benefits. Most of us take our dog out for walk for them to either go potty outside or release some energy but did you know some of the same benefits that the dog is getting, you are too. What are they?

By walking outside daily, did you know you are reducing your risk of heart disease, osteoporosis, and even diabetes? How? By walking with your dog, you both are burning of excess calories so that will help with you maintaining or losing weight depending on how often and how long you walk. Also, as you age, you want your joints to keep moving and not be stiff, so daily walking with your dog, can help you both with mobility. Finally, if you both are walking together, you both are helping your digestion (no matter when you ate) and that always can lead to good health benefits for both of you.

Let’s not forget the most important reason to walk with you dog—you are the center of his world so what better way to spend time with him? As mentioned yesterday, your body releases endorphins when you exercise and by exercising you are contributing to your personal and emotional health in a positive way as well as spending quality time with your dog and thus, helping his health.

Your New Year’s resolution doesn’t have to fail in just one month because just a simple 20 mins or 30 mins walk is enough to improve your health!
