Water usage: AI vs Dishwasher

I’m sure you’ve heard that AI is depleting our water on the planet but is that really true?

Think about this, you’re dishwasher uses 4 gallons of water to run a cycle but there is no think piece written on it while a prompt in Chatgpt uses 16 oz of water. So where is the water usage going?

Big Tech is using the water to cool off the servers that are hosting the AI models albeit inefficienctly and thus the consequences are more noticeable. So what can you do?

Go to your town’s meetings and push for no data centers in your town as not only will water and electricity costs go up but so will noise pollution as data centers are loud.

Using AI isn’t a bad thing but making those responsible to pay for the environmental impact is necessary!
