Define Added Sugars

Another label item that you might see going forward on packages is Added Sugar. This is important to see and know it is there because if you are watching your sugar, you need to understand how much is actually in the product inherently versus how much was added to it, to most likely make it taste good. You can also see this on the ingredients list—as brown sugar, corn syrup, fructose, honey, etc. Remember, some products will inherently have sugars like fruit juices (if they are from natural fruits).

To me, I use the added sugars on the label as something that I can look at to it to know if I’m making a healthy choice or not. We can’t avoid sugars but we can limit how much we take in!

Stay well!
