As many countries and states are beginning to reopen, even with the lack of testing available everywhere, there is one thing that companies are doing to reopen-taking temps of everyone that is coming in. Is this going to be sufficient enough? I guess we will find out in a few weeks if cases spike or not.
My doubt with these temp checks is that what if the thermometer isn’t calibrated? Everyone’s body temp is different when normal so if your daily body temp is 97.8F and you read 98.9F, are you sick and do you need to go home? Unless a nurse is taking the temp, how does the temp taker know what is acceptable unless you put a blanket rule like anything over a 100F means you need to stay home or not come in the building. Also, not to mention that you could be asymptomatic and still have the coronavirus. Everyone wants the economy to restart but I hope we aren’t puttting in false tests to ensure our safety.
I don’t know if temp taking is the best way to provide comfort to employees who fear the virus. I know for me, no matter all the precautions that I take, I don’t know what my colleague is doing before coming in to work so a temp test is really not going to allay my fears. Hopefully, there is a strategy to combat upcoming spikes because let’s face it for the economy to work, people have to live!
