Teamwork and Your Emotional Health

We all have drain-oids at work. They are the ones who are the naysayers at the meetings or don’t believe in changing for goals. These individuals believe that the current way to do something is the right way. Also, they may also be those who dim the energy of the group once you have them as part of the decision making process. What can you do?

Dealing with difficult is part of many leadership books but not one of them actually correlates that interaction with your overall health. These individuals can cause you to have ongoing stress that you can’t do much about because you have to work with them at your job or in your sport. Growing up, if you had a sibling, you probably fought with them and that was your first introduction to dealing with a difficult person that you couldn’t avoid. Perhaps, you didn’t have a sibling but you still had others in your life that you dealt with who were difficult too, I’m sure. The skills you acquired through these interactions can be utilized to cope with your co-workers or teammates. How?

You were able to cope by introducing conflict so may be start there with a difficult conversation. The faster you put this issue behind you, the faster you’ll be able to make a cohesive team and work together to achieve goals. If you want to enjoy your job or sport, you must be able to get over issues that don’t contribute any meaning to your role and actually prevent you from advancing successfully. Too much unnecessary stress whether it is yours or others is not good for your overall health.
